Keeping Cool in the Pool
The Lake Ridge Calumet New Tech community is invited to come out, cool off, and have some fun at the school’s Natatorium every Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m.!
High School Varsity Swim Coach Burnadette Cope says the idea for open swim came after a swim team workout.
“This is the first time we have done summer conditioning for the team, so the pool is open. I figured it could be a good idea,” she says.
Cope says that she and her coaching staff, along with the school’s swimmers, are all certified lifeguards.
Open Swim takes place Thursday evenings from 4 to 6 p.m. The entry fee is $3 per person or $10 for a family of four. Money raised will go toward team uniforms and goggles.
The Natatorium is located on the south end of the Calumet New Tech High School complex, next to the football stadium.
Lake Ridge New Tech Schools Superintendent Dr. Sharon Johnson-Shirley says she is hopeful the community will come out and see how nice the pool is—and begin to support the swim team.
“Swimming is a great way to have fun in the summer,” Dr. Johnson-Shirley says. “We are proud of all our facilities, and as we continue to work to find funding to maintain them, we want to share them with the families we serve. We hope people will take advantage of the pool as summer ends and school begins.”
